Lesson 7: Introduction To Madd | Qaida Sessions

Table of Contents

We will now introduce what we called the long vowel. this is where we double the sound of the short vowel. This extension of the sound is what we call ‘madd’

The short vowel fatha is extended by adding an alif

the short vowel Kasra is extended by adding a yaa

the short vowel Damma is extended by adding a waw

This will become more clear in the next lesson but for now in this lesson sometimes extension is written in the short form to help the student. these are called the short alif, the short yaa and the short waw.

We must be careful here that we are doubling the sound of the short vowel so we must not make it too long or too short.
