By the end of this lesson
- Stretch ā, ī and ū to two counts
- Read the standing fatḥah (small alif)
- Hear the difference between short and long
| Pattern | Sound | Example |
|---|---|---|
| بَا | ā: alif after fatḥah | قَالَ |
| بِي | ī: yāʼ with no vowel after kasrah | قِيلَ |
| بُو | ū: wāw with no vowel after ḍammah | يَقُولُ |
These long vowels last two counts, double a short vowel. Keep the length even: not one count, not three.
